2020 has tested the world’s supply chains like no other year, but however much we hope otherwise, the hardest part of the test may still be ahead. As the weather turns colder, scientists are concerned about a reemergence of the coronavirus. Combine that prospect with the typically frenetic holiday shopping season, and many understandably wonder whether the supply chain will bear up under the strain. Or will we be forced to endure a replay of this past spring, with critical shortages of essential goods, empty store shelves and around-the-block lines at every corner grocery store?
