News To Know

———

It's been 10 years since customers began using FourKites, and wow, what a ride so far. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank every customer, partner and employee who's helped us get here… Let’s dive in..

 The Lead: Mind the Gap

For supply chain teams, data, or the lack of it, remains one of the biggest challenges. Not necessarily internal data, but aggregating and making use of external data.

Though organizations have data from planning, transportation and warehousing, gaps remain.

Steve Brooks, joint editor at Enterprise Times and senior analyst at Synonym Advisory, spoke with FourKites’ Himanshu Mehrotra to examine how organizations are overcoming these gaps, and the ways AI is being deployed to help.

“If a customer wanted to delay delivery by three days, it would take between five to six hours to complete the task because of the volume of enquiries and the need to read through them all. With an AI agent, the process can be automated and take minutes rather than hours.”

  •  During a discussion about AI agents in supply chain, ARC analyst Colin Mason stressed the importance of interoperability, with protocols like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) communication enabling specialized AI agents from different providers to collaborate.
  • page-facing-up_1f4c4.png Speaking of AI agents, they now have the ability to address manual document compliance processes and reactive customer service workflows — learn how.
  • anchor_2693.png According to Gene Seroka, executive director for the Port of Los Angeles, cargo flow is still below normal for the month of June, and “there are looming trade negotiation deadlines in July and August that will impact volume forecasts for the remainder of the year.”

  Numbers to Know

The latest producer price index data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the dry van truckload sector reinforces that pricing dynamics as of May had not turned in carriers’ favor as strongly as expected this year, according to Jason Miller.

“The most recent PPI data indicates ongoing stagnation for all-in dry van truckload prices across both contract and spot loads. Unless we start to see a substantial shift in spot market dynamics and increased tender rejections, it increasingly looks unlikely that the market will meaningfully turn in carriers’ favor in the third quarter.”

Words of Wisdom

“Supply chain operations aren't like finance or HR. They require AI that understands the nuanced patterns of carrier delays, supplier risks, and dock scheduling complexities that generic systems simply miss.”
