Amid supply chain chaos, many US shippers, especially small and medium-sized businesses, spent much of the last year struggling to stock up inventories ahead of the holiday shopping season — some ordered inventories as early as June.

Despite their efforts, supply chain delays ensured that a significant chunk of this imported freight arrived quite late, leaving many holding inventories that arrived after the peak of seasonal demand.
